Artist Statement

This study explores the social trend of child-free in the context of Malaysian society by focusing on the visualization of this phenomenon through the art of photography. The background of the study shows that there is an increase in individuals and couples choosing not to have children due to economic factors, personal freedom and changing social values. This choice is often interpreted as an intent to change the way of life, economic factors and shifting social mores for the youth. More and more people in this modern age are focusing on career and financial independence at the cost of family responsibilities. Through visual images, this project depicts the perspective of individuals who choose to be childfree. This project also aims to enrich the visual study of social issues in Malaysia with a creative approach that reflects the dynamics of contemporary society.
